About MassEquality

MassEquality is a statewide grassroots advocacy organization working to ensure LGBTQ+ people can thrive in all 351 cities and towns across Massachusetts, free from discrimination and oppression based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

About the Role

MassEquality is seeking passionate, engaged leaders to join our Board of Directors and help advance LGBTQ+ equality across the Commonwealth. Board members provide strategic guidance, support organizational sustainability, strengthen community relationships, and help expand our advocacy and impact.

This is an active, working board. Members contribute their skills, networks, and perspectives to support MassEquality’s mission through governance, fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in monthly board meetings and serve on at least one committee.
  • Support organizational strategy, governance, and financial sustainability.
  • Give and/or raise at least $2,500 annually and identify at least one event sponsor of $500 or more.
  • Represent MassEquality at a minimum of one community event annually.
  • Promote MassEquality’s advocacy, events, and fundraising through personal and professional networks.
  • Support the annual Beacons of Light Gala and help recruit donors, volunteers, and prospective board members.
  • Act as an ambassador for LGBTQ+ equality throughout Massachusetts.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to LGBTQ+ equality and MassEquality’s mission.
  • Residence in New England and willingness to actively support LGBTQ+ advocacy in Massachusetts.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to participate in nonprofit governance, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and fulfill board responsibilities.

Experience with nonprofit organizations, advocacy, fundraising, finance, community organizing, or public policy is welcome but not required. We value diverse experiences, skills, and perspectives.
